AN INVITATION TO A REGION-WIDE WRITER’S SUMMIT ON CHILD SURVIVAL
Even before they get a chance to step into first grade, 1 million lives are already wasted yearly.
But if there’s one thing even more tragic than this;
it’s the fact that the deaths of these children could have been easily and immediately prevented.
Writers from all over Asia are gathering together in the first region-wide summit advocating child health and survival.
Using education as its primary tool, this groundbreaking media-driven initiative marks a significant milestone in the Asian region’s fight against ignorance leading to diseases that cost children’s lives worldwide. This 2-day event will bring together key stakeholders from all over Asia to address obstacles and propose solutions in a collective effort to drastically reduce– if not totally eradicate– the incidence of child mortality in the region.
It will be composed of a three-pronged campaign that will include:
* April 10 (8:00- 5:00 pm) Science Writer’s Workshop in Galaxias, Diamond Hotel – Considerably conscious of the media’s integral role in Health Issues Communication, this forum is designed to equip practitioners with effective communication strategies in child health and Invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD) prevention.
* April 10 (11:30-1:30 pm) ASAP (Asian Strategic Alliance for Pneumococcal disease prevention) Launch– Spearheaded by a Filipina, this organization aims to control IPD in the region through awareness, surveillance, advocacy and prevention. Meanwhile, the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination’s UNITE for Pneumococcal Prevention program is the Philippines ’ primary response to the need to disseminate IPD information.
* April 11 (6:00 am – 10:00 am) Bata Movement: A March for Child Survival at Museo Pambata— A public initiative which is projected to create international awareness for the “8 Interventions for Child Survival” –an integral part of which is vaccination, including a new vaccine which helps prevent the incidence of IPD.
